Letters to Editor, The Tribune-Democrat, Johnstown PA
-- somewhere along the way we seem to have parted "company!"

CDH is getting quite a list of unpublished letters at the Tribune-Democrat, but fortunately other newspapers in the area will still print letters sent to the editor. Sometime back, however, I was asked to be "Guest Editor" at the Tribune-Democrat in Johnstown PA. This was an enjoyable experience and will be detailed a bit on the page where all the unpublished letters reside -- the link above titled, "Letters to Editor...."

As you know, we entered the NEW MILLENIUM as of January 1, 2001 and now find ourselves moving into the second decade of the 21st Century! What are your plans for the future ahead of you and is Jesus Christ, Who is The Way, The Truth, and The Life the prominent and dominant Person in those plans? If not, why not? It started in 2005, then repeated in 2006 and again in 2008 -- all W. PA Annual Conference pastors of the United Methodist Church were required to be at the ordination service which was held on Father's Day each of those years -- the preachers got to spend Father's Day with their congregations and their families in 2007, but alas! Back to the same old fiasco in 2008! Two letters were sent to the bishop during the first two years -- none sent during 2008, but comments were made at my blog under the title, Father's Day 2008 Among W. PA United Methodists -- A Real Touch of Irony! An earlier blog was posted in May under the title, They Were in Their Pulpits on Mother's Day, But Don't Expect Them to Be There on Father's Day! Zealous news media people made sure they kept us informed of numbers of military casualties in the "war" with Iraq and they continue to give special attention to the casualties of our present "occupation" in Iraq but notice that they haven't posted the toll of "casualties" within the "land of the free and home of the brave" from the moment the conflict got under way on March 19, 2003!

We continue to be bogged down just a tad in Iraq and a lot of killing continues to take place -- seems like this suicide bomber thing is popular and will always be as long as Islamic clerics do their "teaching" and exert great influence on the young in certain Islamic cultures -- but there are also Islamic terrorists in many different places, Iran going nuclear, North Korea, the Middle East "road map to peace," and some "bogged down" places in the world such as Afghanistan & Bosnia which are a few of the "thorns" in the sides of the U.S. and its leadership at the present time -- are we really prepared to do battle over the long haul? Some United Methodist Church Related Stuff!

General Conference 2012 has passed. Many things happened which were good as delegates "held the line" on the present UMC position regarding sodomy and lesbianism. BUT all those groups pushing the sodomite/lesbian agenda in our culture will be zealously preparing for GC 2016. In addition to a number of groups pushing the "agenda" to accept sodomy and lesbianism as morally legitimate we have a cluster of retired United Methodist bishops which is urging the deletion of that troubling phrase in the United Methodist Book of Discipline which states that homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching! GC 2012 was encouraging in one very important manner - the increase in number of delegates from the African churches -- these people actually believe the Bible, something that is becoming increasingly foreign in the U.S. churches! The African folk believe what God says about the abomination of sodomy and are not afraid to express that in GC settings, and as the African churches expand over the next few years, so will their representation at future General Conferences -- certainly that is very good news!

Finally, About That Bumblebee!

Oh yes, about that BUMBLEBEE up at the top -- years ago I heard that the theory of aerodynamics states that according to the bulk and weight of its body in proportion to its wingspan, the bumblebee cannot fly, but the bumblebee being ignorant of this theory goes ahead and flies anyway!! A lesson I took to heart -- there are any number of so called "scholars" (???) and "theologians" (?) who speculate and theorize that the Bible is not really trustworthy, the first 11 chapters of Genesis are mainly myth and fairy tale stuff, miracles reported didn't really happen, Jesus wasn't born of a virgin, His supposed "atonement" is not really significant, likely He didn't rise from the dead after crucifixion, and He most certainly is not going to return to this earth in what is commonly referred to as His "Second Coming," adnauseam!

I know this because I did a number of research papers on some of this bunch years ago -- while I am not totally ignorant of their theories, speculations etc, I have chosen to believe the Bible and the way it tells it anyhow! Thank you Mr. Bumblebee for a lesson that has helped me over many years!

Oooh, now I'll remember this every time I see a bumblebee --
